RadiciSpandex Boosts Eco-Friendly Initiatives
September 29, 2009
RadiciSpandex Corp., maker of RadElast high-performance spandex fiber, continues to build its commitment to environmentally-conscious business practices with a number of new eco-friendly initiatives led by its replacement of bleached shipping cases with kraft packaging constructed in part from recycled materials. The new cases eliminate the use of bleaching chemicals, thereby reducing green house emissions, wastewater production and carbon footprint.
“Our eco initiatives, such as our new case rollout, are grassroots in nature and deeply woven into our daily activities,” said RadiciSpandex CEO Marty Moran. RadiciSpandex’s sustainability programs include recent updates to its facilities and manufacturing processes designed to reduce the waste of paper and raw materials. In addition to the introduction of the kraft cases, the company’s current eco initiatives include:
An improved 3-inch-wide tapeout strip that eliminates the waste of cardboard and paper products; On-site logistics analysis and recommendations provided to customers by RadiciSpandex technical experts to maximize their efficiency and reduce their waste; A new packaging wind that reduces fiber scrap; Re-dissolving and re-spinning minor excess fiber resulting from manufacturing; Replacing bleached paper with kraft in the company’s beam packaging; Recycling plastic tray separators used to ship spandex tubes; Installing electric hand dryers to reduce paper waste.
